What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)
Remote Online Notary (RON) is a technology-driven solution that allows individuals to have their documents notarized remotely without needing in-person interaction. It enables parties involved in a transaction to connect with a state-commissioned notary public through secure two-way audio-video communication over the Internet. It's like having a notary at your fingertips!

Why Choose Remote Online Notary (RON) Services?
-
Anywhere: Whether you're across town, in another state, or in a country outside the United States, RON platforms enable you to notarize documents online—there's no need to travel.
-
Safe and Secure: Cutting-edge technology ensures that sensitive information remains confidential, and strict security protocols protect your data.
-
Expert Notary: Experienced notaries are authorized by their state and equipped to handle various documents. From loan closings to general notarizations, we've got you covered.
-
Efficiency: Say goodbye to paperwork delays. With RON, you can sign and notarize documents quickly without the hassle of physical paperwork.
How It Works
Signers requiring documents to be notarized present their identification electronically, sign documents digitally using a smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or iPad, and have them notarized by a remote notary. The notary signs the document using electronic seals and signatures.
-
The signer contacts RON Sign Agents to request a remote online notarization.
-
All parties involved in a transaction must speak English or have a certified/registered Interpreter present to speak on your behalf.
-
-
The document is uploaded to a RON platform electronically (usually in PDF format).
-
All documents must be written in English.
-
-
The signer's identity is verified, and the notarial act is performed remotely.
-
Foreign passports are accepted as proof of the signer's identity only when notarizing residential real estate transactions.
-
-
The document will be securely delivered to your inbox once notarized.
Note: Attorneys, lenders, escrow/title, closing agents, and realtors can observe or join the signing transaction from anywhere with internet access to answer your client's questions during the signing process.

Signer's Data Security
Security is a crucial aspect of Remote Online Notary (RON) systems that protect the signer's information. Some of the standard security measures implemented in RON platforms are shown below:
-
Identity Verification: RON platforms use robust identity verification processes to verify the signer's identity before proceeding with the notarization process. This may involve multi-factor authentication, knowledge-based questions, or biometric identification methods.
-
Encryption: RON platforms use encryption protocols to secure all communication between parties. This ensures that sensitive data transmitted during the notarization process remains confidential and protected from unauthorized access.
-
Secure Data Storage: Signer information and documents are securely stored on servers using industry-standard security practices such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and regular backups. These measures help safeguard against data breaches or loss.
-
Audit Trail: RON platforms maintain detailed audit trails that record every step of the notarization process, including timestamps, actions taken by participants, and any changes made to the document. This provides transparency and accountability while ensuring the integrity of the transaction.
-
Compliance with Regulations: RON providers adhere to specific legal requirements and regulations governing electronic transactions and digital signatures in their jurisdictions. Safeguards are implemented to meet these compliance standards.

RON State Laws
The U.S. states that have enacted RON laws allow notaries to perform remote online notarizations. A properly completed RON performed by a state-commissioned notary from a state with effective RON laws is valid and acceptable in all 50 states when completed according to the laws of that notary's commissioning state. Below is a map of the states that have enacted Remote Online Notarization (RON) laws. States shaded in red (Alabama, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Vermont) Do Not Allow notaries commissioned in their states to perform RON signings.
Note: Even though the states shaded in red do not currently authorize their own notaries to perform online notary services, their state law recognizes and accepts online notarizations performed by out-of-state notaries under their state rules.
